Sis woke me up around 6 am. Feeling groggy, I tossed my blanket aside, took my stuff and headed to the bathroom. After my shower, I joined Sis in the living room and watched some cartoon and music videos. I wasn't feeling that hungry, so I just ate a few slices of pineapple to fill my empty stomach. The last video we watched was Tonight by the Jonas Brothers on MTV and yes, I went C R A Z Y, like usual. :D I got this feeling that everything was going to be fine. Dad drove us to school around 7.15 am.
Met up with the rest in the canteen. I had a great time whacking Wen Min's thighs to relieve her tensed and tight muscles (please don't think in the wrong way, people). It's so funny to see her face scrunching up. After applying some Counter-pain on my legs and calves, all of us went to joined the warm-up session. I did LOTS of stretching just in case I get a bad cramp while running later on. I even asked Wen Min to do more stretching with me.
Everything happened so fast. The next thing I knew was we were gonna run next. I was a little panicky already, so I put on my headphones and drowned the noise of the crowd. When we were about to leave the school compound for the starting line, Sis was stopped by a teacher. He claimed that she was using the wrong number for our category. She was like, "WHAT THE HELL?!" I was shocked and I couldn't do anything and the run was about to start. With a heavy heart, I stood at the starting line alone, without my sister this year for the very first time.
The whistle blew. I started with a slow jog, my mind still full of thoughts and anger. I have to get into the Top 20 for my sister's sake. I wasn't sure whether she was allowed to run or not, but I had a goal. As I start to pick up my pace, my anger reduced and my mind was set to finish the run. I passed by some familiar faces and saw my friends at the checkpoints who decided to lighten the burden of our dear teachers. A cool breeze swept through my sweaty face, and sent a shiver down my spine. My hands and feet were clammy and cold.
Halfway through the run, people started walking. I had the intention to stop too, but advices from my friends crossed my mind.
'Whatever you do, DON'T. GIVE. UP.'
'Just jog all the way. DON'T ever stop.'
I didn't stop. All of a sudden, I felt a pain in my stomach. Oh God, it's the stitches again. Oh no... Not good. I was clutching my stomach and running. I do not want to give in because of a slight discomfort.
But no. I couldn't take it. The pain is killing me that time. I switched to gear one. I slowed down. I walked. Shit. I shouldn't have, cause once I start walking, I can't run anymore. I increased my speed again.
I ran, jogged and walked my way towards the finish line. When I was walking my way, Liesl caught up with me and told me to go faster. I picked up my pace, again, and joined her. She sprinted her way to the finish line, and I did the same. Turning into the road that led to the finish line, I gave my all. A few Malay dudes who were holding pro cams (the school mag's 'paparazzi') was like, "OMG! She is SO damn fast! Take a picture of her, QUICK!" If a picture of me looking retarded appeared in the school mag, I'm so gonna stab each and everyone of them with a very sharp knife.
It was so embarrassing cause the pain started again and I slowed down. As I entered the gates, I gave every bit of energy left, still clutching my stomach, and got a card. But I didn't know that it was a plain card until the teacher on-duty told me that it was just points for my house. I was angry with myself for not getting into the Top 20. I wanted to cry in somebody's arms so badly, but I didn't because my friends were no where to be found.
I didn't realize the pain was SO incredible until I started walking to the canteen to look for Sis. Yee Fung found me crouching in pain. She told me to reach my toes to relieve the pain. But the pain didn't subside, so she brought me to the St. John's room and seek help from the St. John members. I was told to lie down, but I went off soon.
I found Sis crying at the canteen with lots of friends hovering over her. She did ran, but she ran with another category and did managed to get a plain card. She was pissed and disappointed cause she knew that she could've beat that "someone" if she started off with us. I felt bad, and I break down.
I couldn't hold back my tears. I cried, disappointed and angry with myself for not doing my best for Sis. Liesl and Beatrice kept telling me it's okay and that I did my best despite the fact that I had very bad stitches. Then, Hui Xian, Jun Yi, Shauna, Jun Wei, Ryan, Rushan and a few more friends came round and cheered me up. Thank you to all of you who made me feel a whole lot better. You guys rock!
Later, I got a very bad cramp because I didn't warm down. I laid down in the St. John's room because of my stitches, remember? So yeah, a bad muscle pull at my thighs and calves. Wai Yi, Anushinee, Hui Ting and Yen Ling were one of the few St. John's members who helped me relieve the pain. But Wai Yi was the one who helped me the most, so thank you so much, Wai Yi, for making me feel so much better. :) Me, Jun Yi and Sis had peanut butter waffles later on. The waffles are finger-licking good! :D
